EQUALITY VS. EQUITY


  EQUALITY:

   *Equality means ensuring that everyone has the same opportunities and receives the same treatment and support.

    *In short, Equality is treating everyone equally regardless of need.

    * Equality is providing the same level of opportunities and assistance to all segments of society: in spite of Race, Caste, gender.

EQUITY:

*Equity is about giving people what they need.

*Equity is providing various levels of support and assistance depending on specific needs and abilities.

* Equity is not the same as equality or as inequality, it is all about giving more to the needy in order to make things fair.


EQUALITY  VS.  EQUITY    

   EQUALITY 

Equality treats everyone is at the same level. ( Treating everyone equally)
Equality believes in even distribution.
Equality recognizes sameness and treats everyone equally.
Equality is providing everyone the same things.

    EQUITY
Equity is the virtue of justice where individual differences are under consideration.
Equity believes in fair distribution.
Equity recognizes differences and attempts to counteract unequal individual opportunities.
 Equity is providing what everyone needs.

CONSTITUTIONAL PROVISIONS REGARDING EQUALITY AND EQUITY:

In Indian constitution starting from the preamble secures to all citizens of India equality of status and opportunity.
— Article-(14-18)- Right to equality(civic equality)

— Article-(325 and 326)- political equality

—Article- 39- (under DPSP)- Economic equality

EQUITY FOR EQUALITY:  

                   But in our constitution, there are some special facilities are provided to the weaker sections like-scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes and women in the name of reservations so that they can achieve an equal position in society like others. These reservations can be called as equity so that we can achieve equality among all in society.

Equity provides more support to the disadvantaged so that they can reach their full potential.


EQUITY PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN ENSURING EQUALITY
